Top 5 Special/Movies for Halloween

Top 5 Special/Movies for Halloween

With the Halloween season upon us, I figured I would throw in some movies and specials for you to watch and enjoy.  Halloween is my favorite time of year.  However, with our recent moves, we haven’t really decorated like we used to, and I feel like I let it get by me way too fast.  I am hoping to get back into it and by watching these, it always helps to make me feel like the season is here.  I know there are many more movies and shows that everyone likes, but this are my favorites and constants each year.  I hope you enjoy the list!

1. Garfield’s Halloween Special

Every year I watch this special.  It probably is my absolute favorite.  Garfield in general I always have loved.  I got all the specials and even the Garfield and Friends seasons on DVD.  Besides the best music that went a long with these specials, but they are hilarious.  My son will watch it on occasion, but not as dedicated as I am.

I am sure everyone watches this special.  Unless you hate cartoons, then there is something wrong with you.  I don’t watch this every year; it is one that I need to be in the mood for.  I think what gets me with any Charlie Brown special is how horrible the kids are to him.  I know that was the whole point and based off actual experiences.  Considering my past experiences with school kids I think it just makes me angry.  I wish I could jump in there and be like “back off you bunch of bullies”.  But I digress.  I usually watch these just for Snoopy.  So, I focus on that.

2. It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

3. Casper

If you grew up in the 90s, Devon Sawa was someone to just stare at.  I never had posters up in my room, but if I did, he would probably be one of them. Setting that aside, it did get me on occasions with the feels.  Him dying and then his father trying to bring him back.  It is a sad story.  While his fate remained being dead, it did end on a positive note.  Good overall movie, even if it was formulaic when it came to how the kids were.  But it was the time it was made.

Like I said in my podcast episode (click here), you can watch this for both Halloween and Xmas.  In the very beginning of the movie, they have carols being sung.  Besides my opinion of this being the best version of the Addams Family, Raul Julia is awesome as Gomez, it just was done well with the story and keeping the laughs coming.  I always wanted to live in their house and dress like Morticia.  Maybe I can still achieve this dream.

4. The Addams Family

5. Scooby Doo Zombie Island

This is one from my brother’s collection, but I have always loved Scooby Doo.  This movie was probably one of the best ones they ever released, in cartoon form anyway.  Has some genuinely scary points and had your classic Scooby Doo run arounds.  If you haven’t watched this yet, please do yourself a favor and watch it.  It is amazing and if you love Scooby Doo, it will bring back some nostalgic feels for you.

Like I said before, this is only a short list of so many good movies and specials for this time of year.  I did another list regarding psychological thrillers, check it out here.  I plan to add to these lists as the holidays come and go.  I hope some of them give you a glimpse into new movies and specials that you may have never watched.  Or at least allow you to remember some you may have forgotten.

If you enjoyed this post, please check out my others.  Do you like podcasts?  Do you like talking about nostalgic things?  Well, check out my podcast here! Thank you for checking out my site!
